Peter Janssen is a full professor in Neurophysiology at the KU Leuven Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurosciences. He received an MD degree and a masters degree in Psychology in 1996 at KU Leuven and obtained his PhD in 2000. After a postdoctoral research stay at the University of Washington in Seattle (2001-2003) he returned to KU Leuven and started his own research group. He was elected as the head of the department of Neuroscience in 2016. His main research interests are three-dimensional object vision, grasping, and functional interactions between the dorsal and the ventral visual stream. The research tools are single-cell recordings in awake behaving monkeys, electrical microstimulation, reversible inactivation and functional imaging. He received an ERC Consolidator grant in 2010 and coordinates a large collaborative project (Program Financing) aimed at translational neuroscience research.
