Dr. Rainer Kokozinski’s lab is currently investigating the "High-Density adaptive Stimulation for Retina Implants" project. Highly integrated and mechanically flexible electronic circuits are being developed for future retinal implants, with which the function of the receptors of the retina can be simulated and which "encode" this visual information in such a way that the subsequent processing cell layers can "understand" it. This "coding" has to adapt dynamically in order to compensate for aging effects at the technology-tissue interface, which is referred to as "closed-loop stimulation."
