Nano Retina aimed to develop advanced nanotechnology devices intended to restore functional vision to blind individuals. Nano Retina had offices in Herzliya, Israel, and partners globally with distinguished research centers and technology manufacturers.
The NR600 System includes a tiny implant fixated on the retina and a set of eyeglasses that power and communicate with the implant. The system can process visual images and simulate photoreceptor function by mimicking the inner retinal nerve cells, which in turn pass the signal through the optic nerve to the brain, thus restoring a rudimentary form of visual perception.
In the spring of 2024, Nano-Retina in Israel closed down, ending the NR600 program, due to lack of investor support.
