ReVision Implant is working on the cutting edge of neurotechnology - developing the first visual prosthesis that restores useful vision for blind people no matter the cause of their condition. In parallel with ongoing first-in-human studies, we are now developing the first generation of active implantable brain implants for future clinical studies.

How to apply: Send your CV and a short statement of your interest to careers@revision-implant.com with subject “Software Engineer – [Your Name]”. In your statement, briefly describe an example how you dealt with design and verification of most safety-critical software item you have encountered so far.

Role & Responsibilities

We're looking for a software engineer with a structured and disciplined approach to software development. Experience in a strictly regulated environment, such as medical devices, is a plus. You will develop the software of our visual prosthesis, from the implant firmware to the external headset and a mobile app, in close collaboration with our hardware and quality engineers. The correct mindset and approach are critical in this role: you plan before you code, derive software requirements from the risk analysis, define clear interfaces with the hardware, and specify how each unit will be verified. ReVision being a start-up company, you should be able to work in a fast-paced team and be a flexible problem-solver.

What you’ll do:

Software lifecycle & risk management:

  • Contribute to, and maintain, the software development plan and safety classification, according to IEC 62304, together with our quality and regulatory team.
  • Contribute to the software risk analysis in line with ISO 14971: identify how software can contribute to hazardous situations and define risk control measures.
  • Integrate cybersecurity from the start: threat modelling, secure firmware updates and a software bill of materials (SBOM), in line with IEC 81001-5-1 and FDA guidance.

Software architecture, implementation & hardware integration:

  • Translate system requirements into software requirements and an architecture with well-defined interfaces between software items.
  • Define the hardware-software interfaces together with our hardware team: digital and wireless interfaces, timing, latency and power budgets.
  • Develop embedded firmware for the implant and the external headset (including ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and a mobile app).
  • Contribute to the image-processing pipeline to convert camera images into neural stimulation.
  • Apply coding standards (e.g. MISRA C) and design for fail-safe behaviour.

Verification & testing:

  • Define, implement and run unit, integration and system tests, including hardware-in-the-loop tests on the real electronics.
  • Set up automated builds with static analysis and code coverage.
  • Maintain traceability from requirements and risk control measures to their verification, and contribute to device-level validation, together with the quality and clinical team.

Basic Qualifications

  • MSc in computer science or engineering, or similar.
  • 4+ years of software development in a regulated, safety-critical domain: medical devices (IEC 62304) or comparable domains with high demands on reliability and formal development, such as aerospace, space, automative, semiconductors, or industrial automation.
  • Hands-on experience across the full software lifecycle: planning, risk analysis, requirements, architecture, verification, release and maintenance.
  • Strong C/C++ for embedded systems, python for test automation and tooling.
  • Experience with unit test frameworks, static analysis, code review and Git.
  • Clear, structured technical writing. Fluent in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in neurotech or other active implantable devices.
  • Mobile app development (iOS and/or Android).
  • Digital hardware development (Verilog).
  • Real-time image processing on embedded or mobile platforms.
  • Medical device cybersecurity (IEC 81001-5-1, secure boot, firmware signing).
  • Knowledge of Dutch.

Benefits

What We Offer:

  • The opportunity to contribute to software that will be used in clinical trials in the coming years.
  • Close collaboration with hardware and clinical experts on a Class III active implantable device.
  • Salary aligned with your experience and region of work.
  • Exciting opportunity to join a young, dynamic and hard-working team, dedicated to making a real difference in the life of blind people. This is an opportunity to change the world.
