Douglas Shire is the Chief Technology Officer at Bionic Eye Technologies in Ithaca, New York. He is working on the Boston Retinal Implant Project, the foundation of Bionic Eye Technologies, which aims to provide a solution for blindness in patients suffering from age related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa. Dr. Shire is focused on the engineering aspects of the project. He earned his BS in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his PhD in electrical engineering from Cornell University, where he is now a visiting scientist.
