Vernon Towle, PhD is a Professor at the Neurology department and a committee member on Neurobiology at The University of Chicago. He earned his PhD at The University of North Carolina. His research focuses on studying Auditory and Visual cortexes and sensory systems through EEG and VEP techniques.

In 2017, the University of Chicago research group, which included Dr. Towle, received a $2.4 million subcontract from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) to develop a wireless device capable of restoring partial vision to the visually impaired. The grant is part of a larger $11.8 million project awarded to IIT with Dr. Philip Troyk as the principal investigator by the National Institutes of Health as part of the White House BRAIN Initiative (Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies)
