William R. Freeman, M.D. is a Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and Vice chair of the department of ophthalmology at the University of California San Diego and co-founder of Nanovision Biosciences. He is also Director of UCSD’s Jacobs Retina Center, the only free-standing retina research center in the country.

He is an Associate Editor of the Journal Retina and has been on the editorial board of that journal as well as Ophthalmology and others for many years. He is founding member of the International Society for Ocular Infections. He has published over 550 peer reviewed scientific papers in the area of retinal disease and speaks frequently nationally and internationally.
