Second Sight Medical Products, Inc. (SSMP) is a medical device company based in Sylmar, CA founded in 1998. SSMP developed the Argus Retinal Prosthesis System, which was the first device to achieve FDA approval in the US and the CE mark in Europe. In 2020, the company announced their intent to wind down operations. In 2021, SSMP announced their intentions to merge with Pixium Vision, although the deal ultimately fell through. In 2022, it was announced that SSMP would merge with NanoPrecision Medical, Inc., to form a new company, Vivani Medical, Inc.
