Dr. Ione Fine completed her undergraduate degree at Oxford University, and received her Ph.D. from the University of Rochester in New YorK. She also completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, San Diego. After a brief time working in the Ophthalmology Department at the University of Southern California and completing research work for Second Sight Medical Products, she moved to the University of Washington in Seattle, where she is currently working as a full Professor. Dr. Fine's research examines perceptual learning and plasticity, and has an emphasis on the effects of visual deprivation. Current work in her lab includes measuring performance over time in patients who have electrode retinal prostheses implants, as well as examining the effects of long-term visual deprivation. She is also a Fellow of the Optical Society of America and the past chair of the vision section of OSA.
