Timothy Jackson is Professor in Retinal Research at King’s College London, part of the King’s Health Partners, the UK’s largest Academic Health Science Centre. Prof. Jackson is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a specialist interest in age-related macular degeneration, diabetes and cataract surgery. He has subspecialty expertise in vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina.
Following a medical degree in New Zealand, Prof. Jackson undertook his ophthalmology training in the UK at St Thomas’ and Moorfields Eye Hospitals. He was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at King’s College Hospital, London in 2006 and won a national award to assume the post of University Senior Lecturer at King’s College London in 2011. He was promoted to Professor in 2018.
Prof. Jackson is the editor of Moorfields Manual of Ophthalmology and is the Chief Investigator on a number of ophthalmology trials including several on age-related macular degeneration.
He leads the undergraduate ophthalmology teaching at King's College London where he is a Senior Clinical Lecturer with a large, active research portfolio with research income in excess of £4M.
He is a specialist advisor to NICE and sits on NICE's Interventional Procedures Advisory Committee. He has over 100 retinal / macular publications.
