Robert Wilke studied medicine at the Universities of Regensburg and Munich as well as biomedical engineering in Munich and Rome. He completed his specialist training at the Universities of Munich and Tübingen. He then worked at various renowned eye clinics, including in Sydney and from 2012 to 2017 at the Dresden-Friedrichstadt Hospital. In addition to his work as an ophthalmologist, Robert Wilke was also active as an engineer for medical technology (M.Sc.) in medical and medical technology research for many years. In 2008 he received a research grant from the German Research Foundation at the renowned Harvard Medical School in Boston, and in 2009 he was admitted to the Academy of Excellence in Medical Technology (EAMT).
